Short answer
Nyepi is the Balinese New Year, a full day of silence when the whole island shuts down: no traffic, no lights, no leaving your accommodation, airport closed. It falls on a different date each year (in 2026 it was 19 March). Your rental does not stop — the bike simply stays parked for 24 hours, and Iron Rent does not deliver, collect or swap bikes on that day. Plan your arrival and your rides around it.

What Nyepi is
Nyepi marks the Balinese Saka New Year and is observed island-wide with four prohibitions: no fire or light, no work, no travel, no entertainment. From 6:00 in the morning until 6:00 the next morning the roads are empty, shops and beaches are closed, the airport does not operate and traditional guards, the pecalang, keep everyone indoors. Tourists follow the same rules: you stay inside your villa or hotel grounds. It is one of the most remarkable days you can spend in Bali — a night sky with no light pollution — but it is not a day for riding.
What it means for your rental
Your rental continues and is charged as normal: the motorcycle is with you, it just cannot be used. If Nyepi falls inside a 30-day rental it makes no practical difference. On a short rental it is one day out of your trip, so it is worth knowing before you book three days around it.
Iron Rent does not deliver, collect or swap motorcycles on Nyepi, and the office is closed. The day before, Pengerupukan, is busy: ogoh-ogoh parades block roads in every village from the afternoon, so deliveries stop early. The day after, everything reopens by mid-morning.
Arriving or leaving around Nyepi
Ngurah Rai airport closes for the full day, so no flights arrive or depart. If your flight lands the day before, ask for delivery early — the parades start around 15:00. If you arrive the day after, normal service. If you need the bike from the first hour after Nyepi, tell us and we deliver in the morning as soon as roads open.
If you are already riding
Be off the road by early evening the day before. Fuel up on the day before that — petrol stations close. Park the bike inside your accommodation, not on the street: pecalang patrol and will ask about any vehicle outside. Lights off, curtains drawn, and enjoy the quietest night of the year. Emergency medical help is still available — hotels and villas know how to call it.

Can I ride a motorbike on Nyepi in Bali?
No. Nobody rides on Nyepi — the roads are closed to all traffic from 6:00 to 6:00 the next day, and traditional guards enforce it. Your rental bike stays parked.
Do I pay for the rental day on Nyepi?
Yes, the rental continues as normal. The bike is with you; it simply cannot be used for that day.
Does Iron Rent deliver on Nyepi?
No. Deliveries, collections and swaps stop on Nyepi and end early the afternoon before, when the ogoh-ogoh parades close village roads. Everything resumes the morning after.
