What drives the price

Three things set the cost: bike class, rental length and insurance. Class matters most — a 110–160cc scooter costs a fraction of a sport bike or a litre-class machine, and its deposit is lower too. Length comes second: daily is the most expensive rate, monthly the cheapest. Below are our live prices so you can budget from facts rather than market averages.

Why longer rentals cost far less

The gap is multiples, not percentages. Honda PCX 160 costs about 200,000 IDR a day — over 30 days that is 6,000,000 IDR. The monthly rate is 2,000,000 IDR, roughly 67,000 IDR a day: three times cheaper. Yamaha NMAX 155 works out at about 83,000 IDR a day monthly, against 250,000 IDR daily. If you are in Bali longer than two weeks, renting by the day almost never makes sense.

What the price includes

Rental includes two helmets, free delivery across Bali and support for the whole rental. Fuel is not included: the bike arrives with some fuel and you refill from there. Petrol in Bali is cheap — riding around the south costs only tens of thousands of rupiah.

Deposit and insurance: where the real cost hides

The daily rate is not the whole cost. The deposit is refundable when the bike comes back in its original condition, and the pricier the machine the higher the deposit — repairing a litre bike costs nothing like repairing a scooter. Our insurance is optional with two deductible tiers; it lowers the risk of a large charge for damage. A cheap rental with vague damage rules easily turns out to be the most expensive one.

Iron Rent policy: what we require and what the law requires

What we require: a passport is enough to rent — we do not ask you to show a driving licence.

What the law requires: to ride legally in Bali you need an International Driving Permit (IDP) with category A. Without it, police checkpoints issue fines, and in a crash your insurance will not pay — medical and repair costs land on you personally. We say this plainly, because “we handed you the keys” and “you are covered on the road” are not the same thing.

Picking a class for the job

For town, Canggu traffic and beach runs a 110–160cc scooter is plenty — easier to park and cheaper to run. For two people with luggage or longer rides take the NMAX or the ADV 160. Sport bikes and anything over 500cc need confident experience and a bigger deposit — that is a deliberate choice, not a way to save.
