Iron Rent has become an official partner of the International Drivers Association (IDA), an international provider of International Driving Permits founded in 2018. For our riders it means one thing in practice: you can sort out the international driving document through us, with a partner that has served more than 170,000 drivers, instead of looking for it on your own before or after the flight. It is also our first partnership with an international organisation and a step into European and international cooperation for a Bali company that has rented motorcycles since 2019.

What the partnership is
The International Drivers Association issues International Driving Permits, the document that travels with your national licence and shows it in a standard multilingual format. As an official partner, Iron Rent helps riders apply through the association: we explain what is needed, check that the documents are right before they are sent, and stay in touch until the permit is in your hands.
For you there is no new process to learn. You write to the same WhatsApp you use to book a bike, and one team handles the motorcycle, the delivery and the driving document.
What it gives our riders

The honest part: what a permit can and cannot do
An international permit does not replace your licence; it is valid only together with it, so carry both. It also cannot add a category you do not have: to ride a motorcycle legally, your national licence has to include the motorcycle category. If it does not, no international document fixes that, and we will tell you so before you pay.
The document matters beyond a police stop. After an accident, travel insurance usually checks whether you were licensed for a motorcycle, and our own damage insurance applies only to the named rider who follows the contract. A correct licence and permit protect your money as well as your trip.

We confirm the details, collect the documents and handle the rest; the permit is ready in 3–5 working days. Can I get an International Driving Permit through Iron Rent?
Yes. Send us photos of your licence and passport, a photo on a white background and your signature, and we handle the application with our partner. It takes 3–5 working days and costs from 3,000,000 IDR for one year.
Does an international permit let me ride a motorcycle if my licence is for cars only?
No. The permit is valid only together with your national licence and cannot add a category. To ride a motorcycle, your national licence must include the motorcycle category.
What if the permit is not accepted?
Under the partner's terms, if a rental company or a country's traffic authority does not accept the permit, the partner refunds it within three years of purchase.
Do I need the permit to rent a motorcycle from Iron Rent?
To rent from us you only need your passport. To ride legally in Indonesia, and to keep your travel insurance valid after an accident, you need a licence with the motorcycle category and an international permit.
