Short answer
Pick the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R if you are an experienced supersport rider who wants a middleweight that is a little lighter and slightly more usable on Bali's roads. Pick the ZX-10R only if you already ride litre-class sport bikes at home and know exactly what 200 HP means. Be honest with yourself: Bali roads cannot use the power of either bike, both are for experienced supersport riders only, and both come with a high deposit.

At a glance
| Model | Engine | Power | ABS | Type | Monthly rental |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R | 636cc | 130 HP | Yes | Supersport, inline-4 | from 1167K IDR/day |
| Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R | 998cc | 200 HP | Yes | Superbike, inline-4 | from 1500K IDR/day |
Both are Kawasaki inline-4 sport bikes with a 6-speed manual gearbox and ABS. The ZX-6R weighs about 197 kg, with a seat at about 830 mm; the ZX-10R weighs about 207 kg, with a seat at about 835 mm. Both carry about 17 litres of fuel. The gap that matters is the engine: about 130 HP from 636cc against about 200 HP from 998cc.
Riding in Bali traffic
We will be frank: neither bike belongs in the traffic of Canggu, Seminyak or Kuta. The bars are low, the riding position folds you forward, the inline-4 throws heat at your legs at walking pace, and the steering lock is limited for U-turns in narrow lanes. Between scooters, dogs, parked cars and speed bumps you will spend most of the time in first gear with the clutch working hard.
The ZX-6R is the slightly easier of the two at low speed: a little lighter and less brutal when you open the throttle. The ZX-10R is harder work in town, and its power does not forgive a careless hand on wet paint, sand or gravel. ABS helps on both, but it does not replace experience. If most of your riding is around the south, a smaller bike or a maxi-scooter will make your days far more pleasant.
Two-up and luggage
Both bikes come with two helmets and a phone holder, but neither is made for a passenger. The pillion seat is tiny and high, there are no grab handles worth the name, and a passenger changes how these bikes brake and accelerate. We do not recommend riding either one two-up in Bali.
There is no luggage space either: a small backpack is the limit. If you travel as a couple, look at the Kawasaki Ninja 650, the Honda CB500X or the Kawasaki Versys 650, which carry two people far more comfortably.
Hills, Kintamani and long rides
On an empty stretch of the road to Bedugul, Munduk or the Kintamani rim, both bikes come alive — for a few seconds at a time. Then comes the next village, a truck, a dog or a blind corner covered in wet leaves. Mountain roads in Bali are narrow and unpredictable, and neither bike can use more than a small part of its power on them. The ZX-6R is the more rewarding of the two here, because you can use more of its engine before you run out of road.
The place where this kind of power makes sense is a race track. We run track days at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in Lombok; ask us on WhatsApp if that is what you are really after. On public roads, ride at a pace where you can stop within the distance you can see, and use both brakes and engine braking on long descents.
Who should rent which
- Rent the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R if you have real supersport experience and want a sharp, high-revving middleweight that is a little easier to manage on narrow roads.
- Rent the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R only if you already ride a litre-class sport bike at home and want that specific experience in Bali, knowing that you will rarely use its power.
- Rent neither as a first bike in Bali, for town riding, for riding two-up, or to try out a big bike for the first time. A Honda CBR500R or Kawasaki Ninja 650 gives you the sport-bike feel with far less risk.
These are manual bikes of about 200 kg with a great deal of power, so you need years of riding experience, not only a licence, and your licence must include the motorcycle category. The deposit for these bikes is high and is agreed with our manager before the rental; it is refundable and returned in the currency it was paid in. To rent you only need a passport. To ride legally in Indonesia you need a national licence with the motorcycle category and an International Driving Permit; we can help arrange the IDP through our partner International Drivers Association. Delivery and pickup are free within 20 km of our Kerobokan office on rentals of 3 days or more. If you change your mind mid-rental, a swap costs 100,000 IDR for washing and preparing the bike.
Fuel and running
Both engines are well above 250cc, so both bikes need Pertamax Turbo 98. Pertalite is not allowed on any of our bikes. Fill up only at Pertamina stations, never from roadside bottles, and refuel before you head into the mountains, where stations are further apart.
Servicing during the rental is done in our own workshop in Kerobokan. These engines run hot in traffic, so watch the temperature gauge on slow days, and message us on WhatsApp if a warning light comes on or something feels wrong.
FAQ
Can I rent a Kawasaki ZX-6R or ZX-10R in Bali without supersport experience?
We do not recommend it. Both bikes are for experienced supersport riders only, with a licence that includes the motorcycle category. If you have not ridden a bike like this before, a Honda CBR500R or Kawasaki Ninja 650 is the sensible step.
Is the ZX-10R worth it over the ZX-6R on Bali roads?
For most riders, no. Bali roads cannot use the power of either bike, and the ZX-6R lets you use more of its engine on narrow mountain roads. The ZX-10R makes sense only if you already ride a litre-class sport bike and want exactly that experience.
Can I ride the ZX-6R or ZX-10R with a passenger?
We do not recommend it. The pillion seat is tiny and a passenger changes how these bikes brake and accelerate. For two people, choose a Kawasaki Ninja 650, Honda CB500X or Kawasaki Versys 650.
Where can I actually use this power?
On a race track. We run track days at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in Lombok; message us on WhatsApp for details.
What fuel do the ZX-6R and ZX-10R need?
Pertamax Turbo 98. Pertalite is not allowed on any of our bikes.
