Riding two-up is normal in Bali, but the bike matters. A small scooter with two adults struggles on the climbs to Ubud or Kintamani; a 150–160cc maxi-scooter or a mid-size motorcycle does not. Every rental includes two helmets.
One bike for two is how many couples see Bali: one parking spot, no waiting for a taxi. The south (Canggu, Seminyak, Sanur) is flat and slow, and almost any scooter will do. The moment you head inland, the combined weight starts to count: the roads to Ubud, Tegallalang, Bedugul and Kintamani climb for long stretches and drop just as steeply.
Carrying a passenger asks more of the rider. Braking distances grow, the bike is less willing to turn, and a sudden move from the back shifts the balance. If you are new to riding, keep to the south for the first days.
A passport is enough to rent. The rider needs a national licence with the motorcycle category and an International Driving Permit to ride legally in Indonesia.
In town: the Honda PCX 160 and Yamaha NMAX 155 have a long, flat seat, passenger footrests and enough power for two in the south and up to Ubud. The storage under the seat takes a small bag.
Longer rides: for Kintamani, Bedugul or the east coast take the Yamaha XMAX 250 or Honda ADV 160. The XMAX has a large, comfortable passenger seat and a big compartment under the seat; the ADV adds longer suspension for rough roads.
For experienced riders: the Honda CB500X and Kawasaki Versys 650 are comfortable two-up tourers with torque to spare on climbs. The Honda Rebel 500 and Rebel 1100 work for shorter rides along the coast, but the pillion seat is small. If your scooter feels underpowered with two, you can swap to a bigger one during the rental.

Scooters that carry two start from 200,000 IDR per day and from 2,000,000 IDR per month. Maxi-scooters and motorcycles cost more; the longer the rental, the lower the daily rate, and a month never costs more than the monthly rate.

To rent, a passport is enough. To ride legally in Indonesia you need your national licence with the motorcycle category plus an International Driving Permit (IDP). If you don’t have an IDP yet, we help arrange one through our partner International Drivers Association.
Delivery and pickup are free within 20 km of our Kerobokan office on rentals of 3 days or more: Canggu, Berawa, Pererenan, Seminyak, Kerobokan, Legian, Kuta, Jimbaran, Sanur and Denpasar. Nusa Dua is usually free, but a few addresses are beyond 20 km, so we confirm yours first. Ubud and Uluwatu are free within 20 km, otherwise 200,000 IDR; the airport is 200,000 IDR. We also deliver to the rest of Bali: the fee depends on distance and rental length and is confirmed on WhatsApp before you pay. For rentals under 3 days delivery is paid, and we confirm the price before booking. Deliveries run 10:00–19:00.
Optional damage protection comes in two levels, MAX and MIN. It covers only the rented bike, not people or third parties, and only if the accident is reported from the scene, the rider is sober and is the named rider. Check that your travel insurance covers motorcycle riding for both of you.
