Motorcycle & Scooter Rental in Kuta and Legian

Kuta and Legian are the busiest stretch of Bali’s south coast: a long surf beach, shopping streets, bars and hotels of every size, packed into a grid of narrow, largely one-way streets. First-time visitors, surfers learning on Kuta’s beach break and people who want nightlife within walking distance stay here, and the airport is close, so Kuta is often the first and last stop of a trip.

Kuta and Legian are inside our free zone: delivery and pickup are free on rentals of 3 days or more (within 20 km of our Kerobokan office). For rentals under 3 days delivery is paid, and the price is confirmed before booking. Airport delivery is 200,000ย IDR.

A passport is all you need to rent. To ride legally in Indonesia you need your national licence with the motorcycle category plus an International Driving Permit; we can help you arrange an IDP through our partner International Drivers Association.

What the roads are like

  • One-way streets. Much of central Kuta and Legian, including Jl. Legian and the beach road, is one-way. Follow the road signs rather than the map app, and expect longer loops.
  • Simpang Siur junction. The Dewa Ruci junction and underpass, where the Bypass Ngurah Rai, Sunset Road and the road into Kuta meet, is the main bottleneck, slowest roughly 07:00โ€“09:00 and 16:00โ€“19:00.
  • Sunset Road. The wide road inland is the quickest way north to Seminyak and Kerobokan, but traffic is heavy and fast, with frequent lane changes.
  • Parking. Use the marked motorbike parking at the beach and at shopping centres; attendants on the street collect a small fee. Do not leave phones or bags on the bike.
  • Rain and nights out. Heavy wet-season rain floods some low streets for a while. At night the bar streets are full of pedestrians and taxis, and our damage protection only applies if the rider is sober.

Which bike to choose

For short hops, tight lanes and crowded parking, a Honda Scoopy or Yamaha Fazzio 125 is the easiest choice. If you plan day trips to Uluwatu or Canggu, a Yamaha Aerox 155, Yamaha NMAX 155 or Honda PCX 160 is more comfortable on the bypass and on longer climbs.

Big bikes are less practical in Kuta’s lanes, but they make sense for rides out of town: a Honda CB500X or Kawasaki Versys 650 for Tanah Lot and the hills, a Yamaha MT-03 or Kawasaki Z650 for the Bukit bends, and a Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R for experienced riders who want a proper sport bike.

Where to ride from here

  • Seminyak โ€” 10โ€“20 minutes via Jl. Legian or Sunset Road, parking is tight in the evening.
  • Jimbaran bay โ€” 15โ€“30 minutes past the airport, the seafood grills on the beach are busiest at sunset.
  • Canggu โ€” 30โ€“50 minutes through Kerobokan, slow in the late afternoon.
  • Uluwatu โ€” 45โ€“75 minutes, most of it up Jl. Raya Uluwatu; leave early if you want to be there for sunset.
  • Tanah Lot โ€” 60โ€“90 minutes, the last part runs through villages and rice fields; go before the sunset crowds.
