Motorcycle & Scooter Rental in Lovina

Lovina is Bali’s calm north side: black-sand beaches, dolphin boats at dawn, the Banjar hot springs and quiet roads west to Pemuteran. Here is what riding the north coast is really like.

Motorcycle & Scooter Rental in Lovina

Lovina is a string of beach villages west of Singaraja, Bali’s second city, with Kalibukbuk as its centre. Travellers come for a slower pace, dolphin trips and snorkelling, and use it as a base for the waterfalls in the hills and the ride west to Pemuteran and Menjangan island.

We deliver to Lovina: it is outside our free zone, so the fee depends on the distance and the length of the rental and is confirmed on WhatsApp before you pay. Many riders instead pick the bike up at our Kerobokan office (open daily 09:00โ€“20:00) and ride over the Bedugul pass โ€” 3โ€“3.5 hours from Canggu with a stop at the lakes, a full and very scenic first day. Start early to cross the mountains before the afternoon fog.

To rent you only need a passport. To ride legally in Indonesia you need your national licence with the motorcycle category plus an International Driving Permit; we help arrange the IDP through our partner International Drivers Association.

What the roads are like

  • Over the mountains. The usual route from the south crosses Bedugul at about 1,200 metres and drops to Singaraja through the Gitgit hairpins. Expect fog and rain in the afternoon and cool air at the top.
  • North coast road. The coast road is mostly flat and straight, which invites speed, but it is shared with trucks, school traffic, dogs and village ceremonies.
  • Singaraja. The city has one-way streets and busy markets. Allow extra time to cross it when heading east.
  • Night riding. Outside Singaraja and Lovina the roads are poorly lit. Plan long rides to finish before dark.
  • Heat. The north is drier and hotter than the south. Carry water on the ride to Pemuteran and cover up against the sun.

Which bike to choose

Around Lovina itself any scooter will do, and a Honda Scoopy or Yamaha Fazzio 125 is enough for trips to Banjar and Singaraja. For the ride from the south over the Bedugul pass, take at least a 150cc: Yamaha NMAX 155, Honda PCX 160, Honda ADV 160 or, for two people with bags, a Yamaha XMAX 250.

If Lovina is one stop on a longer loop โ€” Munduk, Pemuteran, the west coast โ€” an adventure bike makes the long days easier: Honda CB150X, Honda CB500X or Kawasaki Versys 650. Bikes of 150โ€“250cc need at least Pertamax 92, bigger bikes Pertamax Turbo 98; the larger Pertamina stations are in and around Singaraja.

Where to ride from here

  • Banjar hot springs โ€” 15โ€“20 min west of Lovina; warm pools in a garden, the Brahmavihara-Arama monastery is close by.
  • Singaraja โ€” 15โ€“20 min east; the old harbour and the easiest place to find large fuel stations.
  • Gitgit and Sambangan waterfalls โ€” 25โ€“45 min into the hills; you park by the road and walk the last part on steps and paths.
  • Munduk โ€” 1โ€“1.5 h; a steep climb with tight bends, go before noon to avoid the fog.
  • Pemuteran and Menjangan โ€” 1โ€“1.5 h west; boats to Menjangan island leave from Labuhan Lalang, 15โ€“20 min past Pemuteran, and snorkel trips start early.

Questions we get

How much does it cost to rent a scooter for Lovina?

Scooters start from 200,000ย IDR per day, and monthly rentals from 2,000,000ย IDR. A month never costs more than the monthly rate, so a longer stay in the north is much cheaper per day. Every rental includes two helmets and a phone holder.

Do you deliver to Lovina?

Yes. Lovina is outside our free zone, so the delivery fee depends on the distance and the rental length and is confirmed on WhatsApp before you pay. Deliveries run 10:00โ€“19:00. Or pick the bike up in Kerobokan and ride over the mountains yourself.

What documents do I need?

To rent, only your passport. To ride legally in Indonesia you need your national licence with the motorcycle category and an International Driving Permit. We help arrange the IDP through our partner International Drivers Association.

How long is the ride from Canggu to Lovina?

About 3โ€“3.5 hours over the Bedugul pass, the usual route, plus stops. Routes along the west coast or via Kintamani are longer. Leave in the morning so you are over the mountains before the afternoon fog.

Can I ride to Pemuteran and Menjangan island?

Yes, it is 1โ€“1.5 hours west along the coast. The bike stays on the mainland: you leave it at Labuhan Lalang and take a boat to Menjangan, which is part of West Bali National Park.
