Motorcycle & Scooter Rental in Sanur

Sanur is the calm side of south Bali: flat streets, a long beachfront and far less stop-go traffic than Kuta or Canggu. Families, long-stay visitors and people catching the fast boat to Nusa Penida or Lembongan tend to base themselves here, while Renon on the western edge is where many Denpasar offices and residents are.

Sanur and Renon are inside our free zone: delivery and pickup are free on rentals of 3 days or more (within 20 km of our Kerobokan office). For rentals under 3 days delivery is paid, and we confirm the price before you book. Deliveries run 10:00โ€“19:00.

A passport is all you need to rent. To ride legally in Indonesia you need your national licence with the motorcycle category plus an International Driving Permit; we can help you arrange an IDP through our partner International Drivers Association.

What the roads are like

  • Bypass Ngurah Rai. The main road along Sanur’s western side is fast and busy, with trucks and U-turn gaps in the median. It is slowest roughly 07:00โ€“09:00 and 16:00โ€“19:00.
  • Jl. Danau Tamblingan. Sanur’s main street is slower and narrower, with taxis stopping, pedestrians crossing and bikes parked along the kerb. Easy riding, just not quick.
  • Beach path. The paved beachfront promenade is for walking and cycling, not for motorbikes. Park at the beach entrances, where an attendant usually collects a small fee.
  • IB Mantra bypass. From the Tohpati junction north of Sanur this coastal highway runs east towards Keramas, Klungkung and Padangbai. It is straight and fast, with trucks and little shade; ride it in daylight.
  • Rain and Renon. In the wet season (roughly November to March) afternoon downpours can flood low streets for a while. In Renon, the roads around the Bajra Sandhi monument close to traffic on Sunday mornings for the car-free day.

Which bike to choose

For everyday riding around Sanur and Renon a Honda Scoopy or Yamaha Fazzio 125 is enough: the streets are flat and parking is easy. If you plan to cross to Ubud or the east coast often, a Honda PCX 160, Yamaha NMAX 155 or Honda ADV 160 is more comfortable for two and has more room under the seat.

Sanur is a convenient start for longer rides east along the IB Mantra bypass. A Honda CB500X or Kawasaki Versys 650 handles the fast bypass and the climb to Sidemen comfortably, a Honda Rebel 500 or Kawasaki Vulcan S suits relaxed coastal rides, and riders who want more power can take a Kawasaki Z900 or Honda CB650R.

Where to ride from here

  • Serangan Island โ€” 15โ€“25 minutes, cross the bridge for the turtle conservation centre and quiet roads.
  • Ubud โ€” 45โ€“75 minutes via Batubulan, traffic builds on the way back in the late afternoon.
  • Keramas beach โ€” 25โ€“40 minutes along the IB Mantra bypass, park on the paved area, not on the sand.
  • Padangbai โ€” 60โ€“90 minutes along the east coast bypass, leave early to avoid midday heat and trucks.
  • Sidemen โ€” 1.5โ€“2 hours, the last part climbs through villages and rice terraces, so a bigger bike or maxi-scooter is more comfortable with two.

Questions we get

How much does it cost to rent a scooter in Sanur?

Scooters start from 200,000ย IDR per day, and a month on a scooter starts from 2,000,000ย IDR. Long rentals are much cheaper per day, and a month never costs more than the monthly rate.

Do you deliver to Sanur and Renon?

Yes. Sanur and Renon are within 20 km of our Kerobokan office, so delivery and pickup are free on rentals of 3 days or more. For shorter rentals delivery is paid, and we confirm the price before you book.

What do I need to rent and to ride legally?

A passport is enough to rent. To ride legally you need your national licence with the motorcycle category and an International Driving Permit; we can help you arrange an IDP through our partner International Drivers Association.

Is Sanur a good base for day rides?

Yes, especially to the east. The IB Mantra bypass starts just north of Sanur and leads to Keramas, Klungkung and Padangbai, and Ubud is usually 45โ€“75 minutes away, without first crossing the traffic of Kuta or Canggu.

Is a small scooter enough for Sanur?

For Sanur and Renon, yes: the area is flat and distances are short. If two of you will ride to Ubud or Sidemen regularly, a 155โ€“160cc scooter such as the Yamaha NMAX or Honda PCX is noticeably more comfortable.
