What a Bali scooter rental actually includes with Iron Rent: helmets, servicing, delivery, deposit, protection — and what is not included

The scooters this applies to

Everything below applies to every scooter in our Bali fleet, from the Honda Scoopy to the Yamaha XMAX 250. Prices are the monthly rate shown per day; shorter rentals cost more per day, and a month never costs more than the monthly rate.

Included in every rental

• Two helmets. One for the rider, one for a passenger, with every rental and at no extra charge. Children's sizes are not part of the standard kit; ask us when booking.
• A phone holder on the handlebar, so navigation stays in view and your phone stays out of your hand.
• Servicing during the rental in our own workshop in Kerobokan. Oil, brakes, tyres, a bulb that fails on week two — that is ours to fix, not yours. Message us and we arrange it.
• Handover at your address. At delivery we go through the bike's condition together and photograph it, show the controls, and hand over the bike's registration card (STNK), which stays with the scooter.
• Support on WhatsApp at +62 812 2885 3301 for the whole rental: breakdowns, questions, changes of plan.
• Delivery and pickup under the rules in the next section.

Delivery: when it is free and when it is not

Delivery and pickup are free within 20 km of our office at Jl. Raya Semer No. 38, Kerobokan, on rentals of 3 days or more. The free zone covers Canggu, Berawa, Pererenan, Seminyak, Kerobokan, Legian, Kuta, Jimbaran, Sanur and Denpasar. Nusa Dua is usually free, but a few addresses are beyond 20 km, so we confirm the address first. Ubud and Uluwatu are free if within 20 km, otherwise 200,000 IDR. The airport is 200,000 IDR.

Everywhere else in Bali — Tabanan and the west coast, Bedugul, Munduk, Lovina, Amed, Sidemen, Candidasa, Padangbai — we deliver, and the fee depends on distance and rental length; it is confirmed on WhatsApp before you pay. Rentals under 3 days: delivery is paid and the price is confirmed before booking. Deliveries run daily 10:00–19:00. If you prefer, pick up at the office, open daily 09:00–20:00.

The deposit, and how booking works

To hold a scooter for your dates we ask for two things: a photo of your passport and a prepayment equal to the security deposit. From that moment the exact bike is reserved for you and taken off sale for those dates. At handover the prepayment becomes your refundable deposit, and it is returned in the same currency it was paid in when the bike comes back in the condition it was handed over in. We never hold your original passport.

The deposit amount depends on the bike class and is confirmed in writing, together with the bike, dates, rental price, delivery and any optional protection, before you pay anything. If a repair is needed at return, its actual cost is deducted according to the damage policy you agreed to.

Optional: damage protection MAX or MIN

Damage protection is optional and priced per bike class; we confirm the price for your scooter and dates in writing. It reduces what you pay if the rented bike is damaged or lost:

• MAX — you pay the deposit/deductible plus 5% of the rest of the repair; we cover the remainder.
• MIN — you pay the deposit/deductible plus 30% of the rest of the repair.

Three conditions, no exceptions: the accident is reported to us from the scene before the bike is moved, the rider is sober, and the rider is the person named in the contract. The protection covers the rented bike only — not you, not a passenger, not other people or vehicles. For medical costs you need your own travel insurance, and most travel policies in turn require a valid motorcycle licence with an International Driving Permit.

Optional: swapping the bike

You are not locked into the scooter you booked. During the rental you can swap to another bike — a bigger one for a trip across the island, a smaller one for town — for 100,000 IDR per swap, which covers washing and preparing the bike. We bring the new bike and collect the old one. Moving to a pricier model means paying the difference in rate for the remaining days; moving to a cheaper one keeps your rental price. Swaps depend on availability, and a bigger bike needs the matching licence category.

Before the rental starts, changing the booked bike to another in the same price category or a more expensive one is possible at no swap fee; your prepayment carries over and you pay only any difference in rate.

Not included: fuel, IDP, insurance for people

• Fuel. The scooter is handed over with fuel in the tank and you pay for what you use. Our 150–250cc bikes take at least Pertamax 92; 4-cylinder 250cc and bigger bikes take Pertamax Turbo 98. Pertalite is forbidden on all our bikes — it is cheaper at the pump and costs far more in the workshop.
• Your documents. To rent you need only a passport. To ride legally in Indonesia you need your national licence with the motorcycle category plus an International Driving Permit. The IDP is not part of the rental; we help arrange one through our partner, the International Drivers Association — ask us before you travel.
• Insurance for people and third parties. Our damage protection covers the bike only. Medical costs, a passenger's injuries or damage to someone else's car are matters for your travel insurance.
• Rain gear and riding clothes. Two helmets are included; jackets, gloves and ponchos are not. Our gear shop at the Kerobokan office sells riding gear — ask what is in stock.
• Parking fees, toll cards and fines. Small and occasional, but yours.

Cancellation and changes

• Cancel 15 days or more before the start: full refund of the prepayment.
• Cancel less than 15 days before: the prepaid deposit is not refunded, because the bike was held for you and other riders were turned away. Instead of cancelling, you can change the bike or the dates and keep your prepayment working.
• After the rental starts: unused days are not refunded, including an early return. A swap to another bike for 100,000 IDR is possible if the one you have no longer fits your plans.
• If we cannot provide the confirmed bike: you get a bike of the same or a higher class at no extra rental cost, or a solution agreed with you.
• Flight delays, weather, change of plans: tell us as early as possible; moving the dates or the delivery is usually possible.

To cancel or change, use the same WhatsApp chat you booked in and send the bike, dates, name and location. We reply with the options that are available.
